As if the dead weren't enough to deal with, the Mariners are now up against the Disciples of the Deep Ones, a group of drugged out fanatics who believe the tellings of H.P. Lovecraft are real.
"Thru hiker sisters, huh?" asked Aaron as he regarded Clara with a look of amusement on his face. "Then I guess I must be pretty darn, lucky, because looks like we've got some walking to do." As he stepped outside, he walked over to where he'd tied Argo, "Unless one of you wants to ride on Argo." He glanced at Emmi, surmising that even with Clara's boast he couldn't really expect the kid to walk the entire distance. "Perhaps Ranger in Training, Lady Emmi would like to give Agro some company?"
He dismissed Bloodwing, the Gyr-Peregrine leaping off of his shoulder and soaring into the sky to scout ahead of them, cawing as he did so. He thought for a moment about whether where they were heading was more like Rivendell or the Shire, and then said, "Well as long as there's no Nazgul after us both would work now, wouldn't they? Question is, do we want a city run by elves or by hobbits." He looked off into the distance as if in thought and then added, "Great parties, or great view? Hmm..." He then waved it off and said, "Eh, doesn't matter. We've got a bit of road to cover, best we get moving."
"Yea man!, We probably walked the length of the great adventure at least on our way thru the last year or so." Clara exaggerated while puffing out her chest in triumph as they passed through the door out of the gun store, The older of the two girls had firmly pushed her regret and sadness back into the depths of her brain at this point and had chosen to fully focus on the new member of their group and especially her new gun that hadn't left her hands since Aaron had given it to her. "Hey man, that your horse?" she asked in slight disbelief, The more time they spent with this guy the more he felt like he just walked out of a story book which caused Clara great amusement. As they neared the horse nearby and Aaron asked if one of them wanted to ride him while they began to make their way to the getaway in the woods it confirmed to her that it was indeed his horse which caused her to blurt out, "You got a horse too man? You're really out of a story book aren't ya?" Instantly bringing her free hand to cover her mouth, "Uhh, I didn't mean it as in that's bad, that's awesome, it's like you're some, uhh.. well, Ah! A true ranger of sorts." she finally found the words after rambling for a moment.
Reaching the horse the two girls looked up at the beast as it towered over Emmi, It intimidated the younger of the two greatly, the thing could practically take one step and crush her. At least that's what it felt to her as she looked up at the things head, hearing the man call it 'Agro' she jerked to look at the man as he spoke to her sister before turning to her. lady Emmi? What is this guy? she asked internally, she had to stifle a bit of a laugh even through the knot in her throat, "I'm not a lady... And I hate walking..." she muttered before looking back at the horse, she would have been lying if she said she had never wanted to ride one, she did, very much so in fact. "Fine.. I.. I can't get on him... By.. Myself though." she muttered before moving to stand in front of her sister, she was taking a huge step for her to trust the man to lift her onto his horse, a big gamble in her mind but it beat out the pain that walking long distances entailed and so she gave in. "You gonna ride that big ol thing Em?" Clara asked as she watched her younger sister move to stand next to the man, the two bags of rabbit jerky still grasped tightly in her right hand as she raised her arms slightly for the man to lift her up to rest on top of the graceful beast.
Feeling the ground disappear beneath her feet Emmi grabbed the bags of rabbit jerky even tighter, like they were going to catch her if she fell or as if the bags themselves would turn into her father if something happened and save her from any harm, as preposterous as that sounded. Feeling the saddle underneath her mere seconds later Emmi took a moment to balance herself before surveying the scene below her, she now towered over her sister instead of it being the opposite, the man that had helped her up was also slightly smaller, "He... He won't run will he? I.. I don't wanna.. I don't wanna get hurt or nothin dude...." she said as she grabbed onto the front of the saddle with her free hand. please don't do anything stupid horsey.. she thought before watching the man untie the horse and walk it a few feet, feeling the movement underneath her felt strangly relaxing, like she could find enjoyment in it if she hadn't just lost the rest of her family save her older sister, Maybe, maybe I could get used to this... she thought as they moved a few more feet she heard Clara shoot off another nerdy response to the man. "Yea man, I an't wantin to get stabbed by no wraith or nothin." she said with a chuckle. "But hey, if they come we got the .300 anti wraith fun times, Boom boom." she joked with a goofy smile on her face, "But yea man, I hope for grass, Lots of it. Oh! and tree's. A river might be nice too! I just want it all nature man." she said with another chuckle before watching him begin to lead the horse with her sister on it away from the parking lot, "Rightio Manio. Left, left, left right left." she said with a smile as she too began to make the journey towards their next destination
Aaron nodded as he bent to pick up Emmi before turning to Clara. "A true ranger, huh?" asked Aaron as he put Emmi up on Agro. "I mean, I've had Agro for a while, but I guess I'd be lying if I told you he wasn't somewhat inspired by wanting to look the part...I guess I should probably admit that I got seriously into LARPing at some point, and that we had a super dedicated group." He thought about it for a moment before he added, "So yeah, I guess that I kinda am. I'll take that as a compliment though."
As he began leading Agro off, he heard Emmi's very nervous sounding question, "Agro? No, especially not with me holding onto his reins. Besides, he's in a decent mood, isn't that right big guy?" Agro let out a whinney seemingly in response. "Yeah, that's a good horse," Aaron said, stroking his snout, resisting the temptation to reach into the saddle bag and fish out a carrot for him. Aaron then chuckled at the ring wraith comment, adding, "Besides, I don't think the Fellowship of the Ring had firearms, would have been a very different movie if they did." He thought for a moment before he adding, "Eh, I'm sure there's fanfic for that, there's fanfic for a surprising number of things." He gave Clara a knowing look before turning his attention back to the road ahead of them.
It wasn't a terribly long journey, but it did take some time. Thankfully it was uneventful, and there was nothing really that happened or got in their way. Aaron found that he had another thing in common with Clara, as she'd mentioned earlier she certainly liked the outdoors. Just as much as he did, really, if not more than he did at her age. As they neared their refuge in the woods, he stopped them just short of the treeline, making sure to keep Agro somewhat out of sight behind a particularly large tree trunk. He motioned for Clara to grab her rifle as he dropped to a crouch and raised his own, pointing it in the direction of the house.
Aaron didn't need the thermals to see that there were an old couple sitting out on the porch on a pair of rocking chairs. The old man what was easily a Mossberg 500 laying across his lap, and if his eyes could be believed a M&P Shield on the woman's. They were holding mugs in their free hands, the steam rising from each mug told him it was a warm beverage of some kind for sure. "Well, well, well, I'd have picked somewhere else if I knew Grandma and Grandpa moved in," he whispered as he continued to watch, wondering if they were the type to shoot first and ask questions later or not.
Clara walked alongside Aaron as he began to lead the horse which her sister road atop, listening to the man begin to explain that he got the horse to look the full part during LARPing. Emmi glanced down at the man confused before shaking her head and returning to focus on the road ahead, trying her best to keep her mind off the images of her mother and sister that still lingered in her mind. Clara kept her eyes glued to Aaron as he spoke, "LARPing? What's that man? sounds Neat!" she said as they continued down the road, cutting into the woods a few moments later.
As they continued down the trails that snaked their way through the tree's Clara continued to discuss the subject of LARPing with the man, Acting out scenes with people and dressing up? That sounds pretty darn sweet in her book, As they continued She heard Emmi stress a concern about Agro, A flash of concern for her sister appeared on Clara's mind before once again Aaron put her mind at ease on the matter, for some reason she found herself trusting him, maybe it was the urge to have another parental figure to fill the void losing her mother and sister had driven into her heart or maybe it was the fact that he seemed to think roughly along the same line she did when it came to interests. Either way as they made it further into the woods and the conversation continued Clara found herself with a small smile as they walked, concerned that she wouldn't ever truly get over the loss she and her sister had just suffered she decided to focus on what was right in front of her, which at the moment happened to be one of the goofiest looking members of society she had ever met, and she was alright with that.
They had been walking for while now, The longer they went the more Clara envied her younger sister perched atop the beast that accompanied them on their journey, "Hey man, I ain't one to complain about hikin or anythin but we almost there yet?" she asked as they started making their way to what looked to be a break in the tree's, Oh, hey, that it? She asked in her mind as they approached, as the light washed through the treetops the scene came into focus as they neared, it was indeed their destination, or at least it looked like it to the young girl "Hey that's..!" she started to blurt out before seeing the man's hand raise for them to get down as they neared the treeline. "aye capi-tan" she said in a lower voice as she raised the rifle to her eye, having switched the optic off her AMBI and onto her Petra during the hike she peered through it at the magnified image of a couple sitting on chairs on the porch, "Pa's got somethin." she said as she took notice of the weapon in the man's rifle. "Looks like that one my grandpa had, umm... Moosberg 5.. uhh..somethin?" she asked Aaron, assuming she was wrong but deciding to take a shot in the dark as she watched them talk for a moment, The group was concealed behind some foliage and pretty well hidden from view as they watched on.
Taking a few moments to watch the scene Clara stayed quiet as she watched them further, hearing Aaron speak about how he would have found somewhere else if he had known Clara looked over, "Nah man, Old people are the best! They always got candy, or at least mine did." she said with a chuckle before looking back through her scope, the duo on the porch where soon accompanied by a third, a man. "Op, we got three amigo's now Aaron." she said as she watched him take notice as well. "What's the plan ranger man?"

Last night had been a sleepless one for Calvin, his subconscious still plagued by the actions he had taken three days prior to his arrival at the current cabin he was taking lodge in, with some interesting landlords to boot. He could still see the look of fear in that guys eyes as he watched Calvin rob him of his supplies, the blank and downright peaceful stare he gave to the sky above as he received a bullet into the stomach for trying to lunge at the other man when he had his back turned. The pool of blood that stained the concrete around him red, Calvin having granted him some mercy by making sure that he wouldn't come back to roam around in a second, aimless, life.
"Shit." Calvin simply muttered as he rubbed his tired eyes, having swung his feet off of the queen sized bed, the rest of his body following soon after he had put his shoes on. Making his way over to the door, the man pushed away the drawer he had pushed over the door the night before, can never be too careful, and began to make his way downstairs. Part of the agreement he had set down with the old couple was to handle some more of the physical labor that they couldn't do at all or couldn't do without straining themselves and Calvin had accepted the offer quick as a flash considering the fact that he didn't want to spend another night on his own, although now that he actually had a relatively clear head he began to regret ever accepting the offer.
General laziness aside, Calvin was a city boy through and through, he figured chopping wood was self explanatory enough but he didn't know the first thing about most of the other outdoor activities. If he wanted to stay though, he supposed he would have to learn these new tasks soon enough and start pulling his weight around the cabin. Cut away from his thoughts as he felt his feet touch the ground floor, Calvin glanced to his left to see that the old couple themselves were sitting outside on the porch with some hot beverage in their hands, a pretty stereotypical thing to do but he couldn't blame them, the view looked gorgeous as he could see that the sun was beginning to rise over the horizon.
Making his way over to one of the couches, Calvin noted with a quick smile how his cap was still in the same spot he had left it, the man having forgotten to bring it upstairs in his tired state. Quickly grabbing it and placing it above his head, the man let out an outstretched yawn before making his way over to the glass slide doors, soon opening them up and making his way over to the couple. Said couple turned around to face him as he approached, and with that Calvin let out a polite, albeit tired, smile before he opened his mouth to speak. "I love the smell of napalm in the morning." Calvin quoted while he tipped the bridge of his cap downwards in greeting, his smile returning to a more natural form as he saw the old man mutter something under his breath before turning back around to face the horizon.
Not knowing where to start for the morning work but not exactly in the mood to ask right now, Calvin decided to take a seat right behind the couple, figuring that for now they were all just trying to avoid the prospect of work and just enjoy the view for a few moments more.
Aaron would have agreed if they were his grandparents, then again, his grandparents were still in Cochin. Aaron had seen the book of Eli though, and he had no intention to underestimate the old couple. Then the other guy stepped onto the porch, and he held his breath for a moment as he thought about what it was they were going to do. From the way the guy interacted with the old couple, he didn't look like he'd known them for long, which meant they couldn't be too bad. That guy though, he didn't really know what to make of him, he looked like a regular enough guy, but times like this that meant exactly jack and shit.
"Well, I have part of a plan," he said as he lowered his rifle slightly. "Grandma and Grandpa don't look like they're really going to shoot us. That other guy doesn't look like he knows them well, so that means I'm sure they're willing to share. So I thought we pull the old walk out there and assume they don't shoot us. On second thought though, that's pretty stupid, so how about this? I'll step out there myself, the two of you stay here. If I don't get shot, I'll explain things to them and I'll give you guys a signal, and that's when the two of you will come out of the treeline?" He then looked at them for a moment, and then decided for himself that it was the best course of action.
Taking Emmi off of Agro, in case the horse did anything stupid if things went south, he slung his rifle and began walking out toward the house itself. Aaron really hoped he wasn't going to get shot at, but really, he couldn't ask either of those two to go out there while he sat in the treeline. Right now he just had to hope that Clara was a good shot, and hope that he didn't take one to his dome and that if either the two oldies or the other guy started shooting they aimed for center mass. He had no plans of dying now...

Taking up a position next to Aaron as they approached the treeline and setup Clara eyed the people through her scope, The trio had not taken noticed of the eyes watching from the woods thankfully and Clara cheered for herself internally at the small victory of succeeding in staying stealthy, like a snake. "So what's the plan man?" she asked Aaron as she looked away from her scope momentarily. The younger man had pulled up a chair close by to the elderly couple by this point and seemed to have just woken up by the way he carried himself. "Man, that's a fancy place donchathink?" Clara asked before looking up at her sister perched atop the horse that towered close by. A shy nod was her response from the small girl, "ah come on Em, we got shelter." she said before turning back to Aaron, Not hearing Emmi speak under her breath, "How are you so happy?"
Turning back to face Aaron, Clara tapped the man's shoulder with an open palm to get his attention before repeating her previous question, "Yo man, so. What's the plan?" She asked once again. As the man began to respond Clara turned her eye back towards the scope downrange towards the three on the porch, Nodding her head as she listened to him talk "Yea man, hey, You think Granny and pa got any candy?" she asked half joking before she took her eye from the scope once again. "Hey mam, so we all hea..." Clara cut short as she saw Aaron promptly stand up and lift her younger sister of his horse, letting her feet meet the ground next to Clara before watching the man turn and begin to walk out of the tree's with no notice. looking at her younger sister Clara's mouth hung open as she turned her gaze back to the retreating figure. "What.. That's, That's not what a plan. Emmi? Uh, What?" she stammered as she watched him leave the tree's. "What.. What am I suppose to do man..?" she muttered as she watched his figure leave the tree's entirely. Letting a sigh leave her lips she looked back down the scope as she watched Aaron begin to move through the field separating the cabins from the treeline. "This ain't what a plan is man." she muttered to herself as she moved her sites to rest on the elderly couple and the younger man.
Watching as the trio began to react to the new members presents Clara moved her finger to rest on the trigger, losing two of her most trusted people in one day had had an effect on her, she wasn't loosing another. "You owe me one man. Em, get behind me would ya?" she asked her sister after cursing the impulsive move of Aaron once again, she really couldn't imagine shooting a living person but the thought of loosing another person that had shown themselves to be at least somewhat interested in her well being burned stronger, Finger on the trigger Clara watched the scene begin to unfold when a thought occurred to her. "Em.. uh.. What was the signal again?" she chuckled.. She'd forgotten...

Calvin heard him before he saw him, having been on his own for awhile the man had developed a keen ear for detecting other people, a fact that didn’t change as he soon saw a man approach the trio, rifle slung on his shoulder as he cautiously inched his way forward. Calvin should’ve been concerned, indeed maybe even panicking over this stranger coming out of the woods but truth be told, he wasn’t really feeling any sense of alarm. Perhaps it was due to the fact that it simply was too early in the morning for him to care or the fact that he held some slim hope that the person before them wasn’t here to cause any problems, but after a paused moment of just sitting there in the lawn chair, Calvin quickly jumped out of his seat and reached for his handgun.
The man soon coming up empty as he reached down towards his holster, just now remembering that both of his firearms had been confiscated by the old couple as an insurance policy last night. *Note to self, ask for weapons back before an armed guy shows up on your porch.* Calvin bitterly remarked in his head as he instead reached for another sling located near his belt, soon unsheathing his hatchet and leaving it at his side, deciding to tap it alongside his calf periodically in some show of force, although said mannerisms probably made for a pretty lousy show.
Choosing to keep his mouth shut for now and let the couple do the talking, Calvin tried to look as intimidating as he could possibly be without a gun, tossing a glare the man’s way that admittedly was mostly hidden under the brim of his cap. He figured that the guns held in the hands of the couple were going to be enough to keep the man from trying anything funny. In the meantime Calvin turned away from the man as his eyes scanned the forest where said man had come from, checking out the area beyond for anything that stood out of the ordinary, a muzzle glint, unnatural sounds, and maybe even one of those bright orange vests, although Calvin doubt he’d luck out and find some idiot still wearing one of those this far into this mess.
The old man fixed Aaron with the piercing glare that most people his age tended to have when they were scrutinizing people. He'd seen it before a dozen times over, and he was more than used to it. "Just you then, is it, son? Now don't think about lying to an old feller like me, I've seen enough liars to know one." Aaron was tempted to respond with 'takes one to know one', but antagonizing the old couple wasn't going to be a good idea. Then there was that other guy with them, he didn't know what it was with him just yet, but he certainly planned on asking. He'd have to tell them the truth about Emmi and Clara too, though, but not without knowing what this other guy's deal was. If there was something sketchy going on, then it seemed the right thing to do to buy the girls time to run.
Aaron fixed the other guy with his glare, but before he could speak, the older woman did. "Now don't you worry about him. This is between you and us. Not his house you're lookin' to stay in." Her words had a humorous tone about them, but at the same time, he could tell that she was dead serious. Fair enough, after all, if he was them he'd prefer for the discussion to be on his terms. After all, they were the ones choosing to let perfect strangers into their home, and share their supplies with them. Therein however, Aaron had an advantage, he had several skills that could be more than useful to them, and he knew that it made it hard for them to turn him and hence the girls away.
"No, I'm not alone," admitted Aaron finally, letting out a sigh. "There's two young girls with me, just lost their mother and sister. They aren't going to last out there. I've got a horse, and a falcon with me too, I uh...I can hunt, the bird can too, and you don't have to find gas for the horse." He let out an awkward laugh at his own attempt at humor. The old couple however just gave him a neutral expression. "I'm good with tools, I can help out around here, I just need a place for these girls to stay. Hell, I'll even cook, I make a mean smoked venison roast, and uh, you guys must know how much the damned deer are growing nowadays, huh?"
The old couple studied him for a long time, then glanced at each other, before the old man finally spoke, "Look son, I want to believe, but unless those two girls of yours come out, I'm just going to sit here and point my trusty shotgun here at you." His wife gave him a look, and he sighed, "It's just, it's not common for folks to be decent these days. This city slicker sure could use some help, and I ain't inclined to turn away children, end of the world or not. We're just gonna have to lay down some ground rules." He gestured at the other guy behind them when he mentioned city slicker, and Aaron couldn't help but smile.
"That works for me," said Aaron, a broad smile forming on his face. "You won't regret this, I promise," he added as he turned in the general direction of the treeline and let out a loud whistle, waving his hands above his head as well, hoping that in the event that Emmi and Clara didn't quite hear him, they'd in the very least see him. Bloodwing however, responded immediately with a loud caw and flew out from the woods and landed on his outstretched arm, and Argo began to trot out from the treeline. In the very least, they'd see that he wasn't lying about his animal companions.
Watching her newfound traveling companion march across the field to greet the other's that seemingly owned the little slice of paradise in the woods they had seen on the pamphlets in town Clara kept her eye glued to her rifle scope with her finger resting gently above the trigger, "This isn't how plans work man.." She grumbled as she watched the scene begin to unfold before her. As Aaron approached the trio resting on the porch Clara kept her eye on the older man with the shotgun as she confirmed to herself that Aaron was clear of the treeline and any bitters that might have been lurking around.
Letting her scope sway to the old man she examined the weapon in his lap before moving her gaze to the mans face. "Please don't do anythin stupid pa, I really don't want to add murder to my childhood bucket list." Clara muttered to herself in a half joking fashion as she let her gaze fall to the weapon once again. As Aaron grew closer she heard a distant call that sounded vaguely like the mans voice which she figured was indeed just that as the trio perked up at the noise and began to look in his direction, as they did the older man brought the shotgun in his lap to point towards Aaron which in turn prompted Clara to shift her finger to the PETRA's firing mechanism and move her site to his head. A sigh broke the air as she stopped short of firing on the older of the two men as he saw him lower the gun and begin to move his mouth in unheard speech. "I really hope you know what you're doin there man." She said to herself as she once again moved her finger to rest on above the trigger.
As time went on Clara let her sights bounce between the trio and Aaron, It seemed that they had begun to discuss something which caused Clara's curiosity to peek, Taking everything she had to stop herself from bounding across the field just so she could hear what was being talked about she opted to tapping her foot on the ground in an impatient matter, Emmi sat still clinging to the bags of jerky that Aaron had given them back in town she paid no mind to her older sister and what was going on, In her mind however she began to blame herself for what they had been through in recent days, The arguments, the anger in her mothers tone, and now she was gone, not only her but one of her closest friends as well. A tear slowly made its way down her cheek, dripping off and landing on a leaf that had fallen to the ground some time ago.
As the scene drove on Clara kept her eye bouncing between the members and Aaron which was swiftly accompanied by a whistle as Aaron turned to face in their direction, his hands rose and began to wave towards the tree's that surrounded them and as he did Argo began to trot past them and out into the open. "Hey! Horse dude, come back!" Clara called as she swiftly got herself to her feet and swung the rifle back around her shoulder, Grabbing Emmi's hand she began to chase after Argo and quickly found herself out in the open field heading towards Aaron and the trio on the porch. Clara continued to follow Argo as he trudged towards his owner completely ignoring her calls. "Come on horsey! I don't think that was the signal dude!" she once again called but it was too late, She now found herself standing near Aaron once again and the trio now looking her and her sisters way. "Oh! Um.. Heyo Old folks! Oh um.. That was rude.. Um.. Uh... Gramps? Maybe.. Please don't hate me." She said with a wave and a nervous chuckle before turning to Aaron. "Oh! Um.. Hey man... Horsey bro just sorta started moving and wouldn't listen to me, he just kept goin and um, I didn't know if that was the signal or not, Was that signal? That wasn't the signal was it? It was wasn't it...?" She rambled as her hands talked as much as her mouth, swaying every which way in sync with her words. Turning to face the trio she gave them an awkward smile as Emmi hid behind her slightly. "Um... Whatzup guys? Clara's the name, Hartmann's the game!" she half cheered as her greeting. Not concerned about first impressions as she quieted down slightly, waiting for someone else to talk she thought. Nailed it! internally cheering for herself for getting through introducing herself.
Waiting for the old folks to respond Clara kept her eyes bouncing between the trio on the porch, The younger of the three of them seemed to look distant and uninterested in the matter, Quickly taking his leave he disappeared back into the house and left the two old folks to deal with the new arrivals. "Well son, Looks like you were tellin the truth after all." He grunted towards Aaron which queued Clara to give Aaron a confused look. "What ya mean man? You tell em we was ghosts or somethin?" Clara joked before adding with hands raised, "Boooo spooky ghosty Clara." Her efforts were met by a slight chuckle from the older woman, who after seeing that Aaron had been indeed telling the truth about him companions had become less suspicious than her spouse. Turning both of their attention back to Aaron they asked him a few more questions about where they had been and how they had met at which Clara chose to stay quiet as her explanation more than likely wouldn't had sufficed
Letting the adults talk amongst themselves Clara pulled her younger sister to the side before speaking "You all good Em? Everything alright?" She asked her younger sister as they sat upon the steps of the deck, Emmi seemed distant, like her light had gone out. Although if asked Clara would say she felt the same. "Hey, Look at me." Clara added, Emmi's head slowly raised to her sister. "What?" she asked in a flat and unemotional fashion. "How Clara? How are you so happy? Mom and Anna just dyed..." She muttered before leaning into her older sister. "I'm not Em. I've just gotten good at hiding it." Clara explained, her hand moved to rub her younger sisters back as she continued. "It's hard, I always have a knot in the back of my throat and all my laughs feel hollow, But I've been sad over one thing or another for years so I just fight through it."
Hearing her sisters words Emmi looked up, She was feeling the same, the sadness, the loneliness, the despair, all of it. Hugging her sister Emmi felt a tear stream down her cheek and fall off her chin. "Why Clara? Why'd they have to go...?" Emmi asked distraught with the thoughts and realizations that she would never see her mother or her sisters face again. "I don't know Em, but, I do know that they'd want us to try and continue on. You remember what mom used to always say?" She asked before turning her gaze to look down towards her younger sister and in the best imitation of her mother she could muster mimicked the line. "There’s a great big hunk of world down there with no fence around it. Just gotta keep goin and makin ya way down the road." The words and tone had struck a cord not only in Emmi but upon hearing herself utter the words of her mother they hit her as well. "Yea.. I miss her man..." She said as she wrapped her arms around her sister, pulling her close Clara looked back up at Aaron who now towered over them as he still negotiated with the couple in charge of this little compound. "You got this man, Get us a roof and some food. Candy be nice too." She said with half a chuckle ending her speech before returning her attention to consoling her younger sister.
A the scene drove on Clara kept her attention on her sister. "You trust him Clara?" Emmi asked before quietly motioning towards the man who was still discussing with the owners of the steps they perched upon at the very moment. Clara took a breath and thought on it for a moment, her eyes looking to the sky and following a slow passing cloud before she answered. "Trust? I don't know Em," she started before looking back down at her younger sister. "I guess, It's more scared of being on our own. Ya know?" she finished with a crooked smile of fake confidence in her words. The two stayed silent for a moment, their eyes searching one another's as they did, Emmi's read fear and concern which Clara hated seeing. "Hey Em, What's wrong?" she asked concerned.
Emmi's hands constantly ran along one another as she steadied her nerves before answering. "You.. You think we might have been a little quick on trusting a stranger?" she asked downtrodden with her head bowed, As she waited for her sisters answer she noticed the group behind her older sister begin to move towards the door of the building, quickly disappearing through the portal, Not being told to follow the duo stood seated on the steps of the porch and continued talking over their decision. A few harsh words being exchanged along the way noting Clara's willingness to follow nearly anyone that shows her compassion which Clara didn't take to heart, to her sisters dismay she was a very hard person to change, albeit no one's really tried to hurt them up to this point, just the occasional bandit or two but their car had always carried them away and out of danger. The fear of not having that mod of transport however did lodge in the back of both their minds as they continued their discussion on the matter.
They stayed there talking for about thirty minutes, Aaron and the old folks seemed to pay them no mind in that time which led to Emmi bringing up the prospect of making it on their own which was in turn met with the retorts of needing company from Clara, The need for people showing strongly in her urge to stay with the group but the more she listened to her younger sister the more she thought, maybe it was better to try and make it on their own, The prospect of staying in one place for a long time she had to agree didn't sound that appealing. Clara stood up and stretched. "Okay Em, I get it. You're right, If he takes a liking to this place we'd never move again and it just make us a sitting duck for anyone who knows about this place. I mean.. We found it pretty quick ya know?" Emmi stood up beside her sister as she began to answer. "Yea, That's my worry Clara... Mom wouldn't want us to stop moving.. I.. I don't think she would anyway.."
Clara fetched her weapons and her pack before turning to dash into the house to say goodbye, Although her movment was stopped by the hand of her younger sister. With a shake of her head, "We can't. They won't let us go if they know." She said in a somber tone before hearing Clara retort. "But, Ranger man should know at least." which in turn was once again answered with a shake of her sisters head. "We need to go Clara.. Before they come and see us.
With the last quiet goodbyes to the members inside the duo disappeared into the forest once again. May they be safe wherever they may roam.
