Seeing Claudia pace back and forth counting down the seconds in front of her, Kinsley couldn't help but feel anxious. Knowing the woman, if someone was going to be late, Claudia was either going to go hard on that person themselves or make the whole group pay for it. Although it had been said Claudia had calmed down after being reunited with her parents after the battle, Kinsley knew better than to underestimate her and was almost too afraid to answer Maria when she whispered asking her if she knew what Claudia's plans were.
"Remembered the first time in the forest?" Kinsley answered Maria, whispering. "All that dry-heaving, puking and throbbing headaches? Not to mention the aching muscles and bones?"
Kinsley remembered the first training Claudia had given them in the forest and it was brutal. But considering she was training them to go to war it had to be. Still, Kinsley remembered the bodily hurt that was inflicted upon her that day and although she'd probably be able to withstand it better now, she certainly didn't hope for a repeat of that.
"Maybe she'll go easier on us, since we were..." Kinsley started to continue, but then did what she was fearing to do; catch Claudia's attention.
"Patterson, Ramirez!" Claudia called. "Shut it, both of you!"
Kinsley swallowed and thanked God that a punishment didn't ensue. She took a deep breath and was relieved to see everybody turn up within the time limit. At least that was something. But they still had a few hours left, leaving room for much to go wrong. Claudia stood in front of them all now, and it had become somewhat obvious she had noticed Jozel's pink fluorescent hair. Kinsley already knew Claudia was going to make a problem out of that.
"Alright, I'm not one for long speeches so I'll keep this short!" Claudia commenced. "For those of you who've had their heads up their asses all this time and don't know who I am; I'm Claudia, and I'm your new gym teacher. I'm doing this on a voluntary basis apart from my already busy schedule within the militia, and you punks are gonna show gratitude by doing everything I say and not whining!"
"Oh boy..." Kinsley thought to herself. "That means she's already extra salty..."
"I say jump, you don't ask how high, you just start jumping!" Claudia continued. "I'm not in the habit of asking twice. If you don't jump, I'll make you jump! And that goes for everything else as well. Ask these two donkeys!"
Claudia pointed at Maria and Kinsley. Kinsley didn't know how to react, she looked at the ground real quick and noticed it was still wet from the morning dew. Kinsley looked to her left though when she heard someone laugh.
"Haha 'donkeys'!" Mophead laughed. Claudia instantly gave him a fiery look, and stormed up right in front of him. Kinsley knew Claudia was going to tear Mophead a new one.
"Haha donkey funny isn't it?" Claudia asked Mophead. He just gave her a grin. Kinsley looked to the side real quick, then gave Maria a look that said 'he's in for it now'.
"WELL IT'S NOT!" Claudia continued. "What's your name Caveman!?"
"Uh... well... it's... uh..." Mophead answered.
"Stop! I already don't give a shit!" Claudia spoke. "From here on out you're Caveman! You'll answer to Caveman, and Caveman only understand!?"
"Uh what? But I..."
"FUCK YOU SAY!?"
"I mean..."
"Ma'am, yes Ma'am! Say it!"
"Uh... yes Ma'am?"
"NO MA'AM YES MA'AM! Say it you dumb shit!"
"MA'AM YES MA'AM!"
"Pathetic!"
Claudia walked back to the front of the group while the rest of the students were obviously stunned by how an adult, and a teacher at that, was talking to them. Kinsley however waved it off as 'classic Claudia' and tried to hide her smirk.
"From here on out being a donkey is everything you'll aspire to be!" Claudia spoke again. "Although incredibly hard-headed at times, donkeys will work and carry heavy burdens until their backs break without a single complaint! And they know how to dish out the occasional kick too if they're threatened! These two distinguished themselves as donkeys during our time in the forest and during the battle, and the rest of you are going to follow their example!"
"Oh shit, not good!" Kinsley thought to herself. "They're gonna think we're her favorites, fuck!"
"Until I deem you worthy of being called a donkey, the rest of you will be known as piggies!" Claudia continued. "You've been rolling like pigs in shit this past year in the safety of the town and well, that's going to change! During my class I'll be teaching you how to fight using your hands and other weapons but make no mistake; before I teach you how to fight, I'm gonna shape you up! I won't so much as let you look at a weapon before you are all in prime condition!"
Kinsley looked at Maria and smiled. At least they already had that part covered. But that didn't mean things wouldn't be tough for them as well, even though they probably already had a better physique than most of them.
Claudia went along the line, inspecting her new 'recruits'. She gave remarks here and there to people, until she passed Sophia and stopped. She inspected the girl head to toe before looking her in the eye.
"Next time that hair is in a ponytail, braid or knot got it?" Claudia spoke, that being the only remark she could give the redhead girl. Continuing on, Claudia stopped in front of Jozel, who she had noticed from the very beginning. Claudia sighed and grunted. The pink hair annoyed her greatly.
"Piggy, why is your hair pink?" Claudia asked Jozel.
"Because I've painted it that way, like I always do!" Jozel answered. "Just because it's the end of the world doesn't mean we can't express individuality right!"
Kinsley cringed. "Bad answer Jozel!" she thought to herself. From where she was standing she could already see Claudia's nostrils flare up.
"Express individuality?" Claudia asked. "Really now? Patterson! Explain Miss Piggy here what's wrong with her hair!"
"Fuck!" Kinsley muttered quietly. She had to answer or it was her ass on the line now. But deep down there was something more she feared than Claudia's punishment for disobeying. If she was being real with herself, she feared disappointing Claudia more than anything else. Kinsley knew she was probably going to get commentary on what she was going to do next but disobeying and keeping quiet simply wasn't an option.
"Ma'am! Because bright colors attract unwanted attention to ourselves and others, Ma'am!" Kinsley shouted.
"And?" Claudia asked, expecting Kinsley to continue.
"Ma'am! It makes us and those near us a target for both the living and dead Ma'am!"
"So what do we do with bright colors Patterson!?"
"Ma'am! We avoid them like the plague Ma'am!"
"That's right!" Claudia spoke, then turned to Jozel again. "Cover that head up Miss Piggy!"
"But I don't have anything!" Jozel answered.
Claudia smirked because it sort of went exactly like she hoped. She looked at Jozel, then nodded her head towards the puddle of mud on the ground. It took Jozelf a few moments to realize what Claudia was hinting at, but once she did her eyes widened and she started shaking her head.
"No, I will not!" Jozel spoke. "What the hell!?"
"Miss Piggy, did you miss the part where I said I don't ask things twice?" Claudia answered.
"I won't put my head in the mud and you can't make me!"
"Oh can't I? Well then, let's test that theory shall we?"
"Wait... what?"
Claudia grabbed Jozel's hand and with a swift move brought her down to the ground. Once Jozel was on her back, Claudia smeared her hair full of mud. It didn't so much get rid of the color, but that wasn't the lesson Claudia wanted to teach the kids.
"WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU!" Jozel cursed. "YOU CRAZY BITCH! YOU FUCKING PSYCHO!"
Claudia reacted to the insult by tightening the grip on Jozel until she couldn't move anymore, at least not without hurting badly.
"No, what the fuck is wrong with you!" Claudia shouted. "You deliberately choose to wear a bright unnatural color, actively making a target of yourself and endangering those around you! Then when asked to cover up you flat out refuse!"
Claudia waited for Jozel to calm down some, and once she had helped her stand up straight. Once she had, Claudia noticed the tears of anger in Jozel's face and her hands clenched into a fist.
"You feeling angry?" Claudia asked. "Want to punch me out? Have at it!"
Claudia waited, hoping for Jozel to punch her, but was disappointed when she didn't. If she had, that would've atleast earned her some of Claudia's respect.
"You're a weakling." Claudia said to Jozel. "But I'll enjoy getting that out of you."
Stepping away from Jozel and in front of the group, Claudia figured it was time to get the class started. Kinsley on the other hand couldn't believe how easy Jozel had gotten off. In the forest, Claudia would've taught her a lesson in The Pit. Maybe she wasn't allowed to do that anymore. Or maybe Claudia herself had become more lenient?
"Alright, Ramirez! Bicycle over there!" Claudia spoke, pointing at a mountainbike standing against a pole. "As fast as you can and I better don't catch you enjoying yourself! The rest of you; on the track and start running! Time to get you piggies in shape!"
Kinsley went over to the track and started jogging. She knew she had to pace herself; Claudia would probably have them running for a long time. She could probably endure herself but whether or not the rest would remained to be seen. She just hoped the others would see why Maria could use the bicycle. In any case, the rest had their first introduction with Claudia. All they had to learn now was endure the pain.
