Strengths:
Diligent Worker: Set Harold to a certain task or a training exercise, and he will do whatever he can to complete. Eager to please, he won't accept failure as an option. The only time he has done so is when he felt the task would do more harm than good.
Likeable Fellow: Harold is a nice guy and is very easy to make friends with. He doesn't have the charisma to be a leader, but it is rare for people to hate him.
Insane Stamina: Harold isn't the most durable, the strongest, or even the fastest around. But he makes up for it with sheer stamina, able to keep himself going no matter what the challenge or obstacle is. He also developed high pain tolerance although this has backfired more than once when he pushed his body too far.
Habits: Whenever Harold is nervous, he will pick at the wound in his hand.
Flaws:
Game breaking hand injury: Harold suffered a bullet wound in his right hand. While it has healed nice enough, it has managed to damage the nerves within. While he can still move a couple of his fingers, he is unable to use it otherwise. This is especially disheartening because Harold is right handed forcing him to do everything with his offhand.
Too compassionate: Harold is not necessarily a naive guy, he can tell when people are trying to use him. But he just can't bring himself to think the worst of people leading to him falling for tricks that he has acknowledged are tricks in advance. He is the kind of guy who knows the bad guys are trying to lead him into a trap, but will go into a trap anyway because he can't risk whatever they are baiting him with in the first place.
“Well Done, Son" Guy: Above all else, Harold wishes to gain approval of those he completely trust even if they already do. This will lead him to going above and beyond what is expected and risking his own life to help those he truly care about.
Dreams/goals: To help Trevor build his dream community and rebuild society.
Fears: Being abandoned because he is worthless.
Overall Personality: A kind and gentle soul, Harold does whatever he can to help others. This is due to his parents being charity workers who gave up their lives to save him. Optimistic and compassionate, it usually takes a really horrible person for him to dislike him. He is also a bit stubborn as shown when in his incredible stamina and wishing to see tasks to the end. The only exception being in arguments where he tries to not to anger people and will usually let them win unless it proves dangerous to the group.
Even Though Yesterday's Gone
History: Raised by a kindly couple, he was taught to always do right by others even if they don't do right by him. Ever since he was old enough to actually help out, they would do whatever they can to help out the community. Whether it be helping out at soup kitchens, offering neighbors helping hand in chores, etc. He even offered to help with tutoring after learning having others cheat off him was not what doing right by others mean. All in all, Harold had a nice life.
And then the dead started to walk amongst the Earth. Banding together with their neighbors, the Thompson family tried to get as many out of the city as possible. Unfortunately, they soon learn that the infection was happening everywhere. What made things worse, they learn very early on that you only need to die to turn as seen when a man trapped under rubble had expired because a rib punctured a lung. The first several months were hell as they tried to keep things together and keeping others alive.
Eventually, they ran into a group of marauders who tried to either recruit them or feed them to their turned leader. Shocked by the depravity of humanity and that anyone would worship the dead like this, Harold’s parents sacrificed themselves to let him escape. Unfortunately he was shot in the hand by the roaming gang and collapsed in a drug store. Overwhelmed by pain, losing blood fast, and being hunted down, Harold thought he was done for.
But then a new group came by and fought off the Marauders and managed to stop the bleeding. He was then met by a soldier called Trevor who had been following the group calling themselves the Sons of Diego. Apparently, Diego was a man trying to form his own dystopia until he was killed by Trevor during the early days of the Apocalypse. The SoD were remnants of that group trying to spread Diego’s vision throughout the world to the point they have the turned leader chained up.
Trevor then asked Harold to join him in his quest to find a place to rebuild society so people like the SoD will never be able to thrive again. Without a second thought, he said yes and he joined the journey to recruit enough people to begin reconstruction. Even following gun training and physical training so that he can better contribute especially since his good hand was damaged beyond repair. For the next couple months, it looked like they will succeed in their goal or at least the base of it.
But then the Sons of Diego and their mad speaker for Diego, which in fact made him the leader, came into conflict again. While they were fought off, with their leaders apparently dead, they had decimated the community. Many died and many more were poisoned or were pierced by weapons covered in parts of the dead. It seemed like all hope were lost as others left leaving only him and Trevor behind.
It was only when they heard about a military base that is still active in Texas did they have the energy to continue. They might not be able to start society on their own. But they will be sure to help build up the efforts of others. After all, if you give up on a better tomorrow, why even bother to continue on in any shape and form?
But Who Are You Really?
