It's Just Who You Are
Likes: Fishing, Camping, Hiking, Climbing meeting people, being in The Great Outdoors
Dislikes: Conflict/Angering Others, Heat, Loud noises, pessimism, Large Crowds
Strengths: Trained Search and Rescue personnel, Survival training, Gun training
Habits: Josephine likes to people watch and finds them immensely interesting
Flaws: Mute(can no longer speak), Very stubborn, perfectionist, PTSD
Dreams/goals: Before the end Josephine always found herself helping people in need, be it either bullied classmates, the old lady needing to cross the street, or the neighbor needing help with their lawn she'd be the first to volunteer. That helping attitude transformed in her late teen years into something more and thus her dream became to venture out and be there for anyone that wanted or needed help in the form of search and rescue, after joining her goal quickly became helping any and all persons lost in the great outdoors.
Fears: Josephines greatest fear is twofold, She can't fathom the idea of finding her mother and father dead. Her voice never returning weighs heavy on her mind as well, the conflict being misunderstood can lead to, people that anger easily. All of it because she can't find her voice. The thought of what might happen if she runs into the wrong crowd keeps her going, driven by fear and anxiety.
Overall Personality: Josephine is a very helpful and deeply caring person, before losing her ability to speak she would find herself into any conversation that would arise but tends to stay to herself nowadays. She'll help with anything requested of her to the best of her abilities and is generally among the first to volunteer when the need arises, Her past in search and rescue leads her to find great enjoyment in the outdoors and when it comes to long trecks through wooded terrain she feels right at home. Overall Josephine is nice and caring although she can be extremely stubborn at times, being trained by what she saw as professionals she's a stickler for doing things "the right way" each time with anything she does.
Even Though Yesterday's Gone
History: Josephine's early years were peacefully spent in the small town of Ellsworth Maine, The daughter of a nurse and a professor at the local community college she was raised to always care for the people around her. Entering elementary school she made friends with ease thanks to her cheerful disposition. As the years passed Josephine's circle of friends continued to grow, her reputation for being there for anyone that needed it had since earned her the nickname RedCross, which further solidified when her father gave her his old RedCross backpack for her fifteenth birthday
As she made it through middle school and in to highschool her reputation had since stuck, students from every grade would find her in times of struggle and as they did the idea of turning it into a career started to take root in her head, but how? Well, that 'how' would come in the form of a presentation in her junior year. It was summer, just before the end of the school year and there was a non-mandatory presentation by the Maine Association for Search and Rescue (MASAR). On a whim Josephine and a small number of her friends decided to attend, It was there she found it, the 'thing' she needed "That's it!" she was heard exclaiming outside the event haul, Which was met by some odd faces from her friends.
Graduation day came and as it did so did the day Josephine turned eighteen. The age required to sign up with MASAR, With her families full support she began the great adventure called life. It was harder than she imagined, as most things tend to turn out being, After signing with MASAR she found herself whisked away to one corner of the US or another for the next few years. First came Endurance and thru hike training in Yosemite, rock climbing instructions in Colorado, Desert survival in Death Valley and Swim training in Florida. Two years she spent bouncing around, In one training or another, attached to one group or the next to shadow what they did. But the day finally came in spring of the third year, she had recently turned twenty and was back in her home town to celebrate. She was sitting with her mother at the time the call came through, The voice on the other end belonged to the search organizer at MASAR asking if she was available; Within a few hours she found herself in her first actual search, fear and excitement mixed inside her like great cauldron of emotions as her and her fellow searchers scoured the mountainside for the missing persons, a couple that had gone hiking and didn't come back. That was the first time she saw a dead body.

A few more years would pass and with them more operations found there way under her belt. From rescuing a climber who was stranded atop a cliff after his repel rope had broken and fallen to the ledge below; To a woman that found herself lost in the woods after losing the trail when it was washed out in a rainstorm. So when the day came for another standard medical extraction her, as well everyone else assigned didn't bat an eye. They found their way up the trail with minimal trouble and soon enough the cabin in question as mentioned in the reports came into view. In front stood a man dressed in hunting attire, his hand raised and urging them to hurry, inside laid another man, His brow covered in sweat as he squirmed in pain. The decision was soon made to put on the stretcher they had brought and to carry him back out of the woods, everything was a usual as ever. That was until they made it about half way back down the trail. The man began to converse in a seizure like state, the stretcher fell to the ground and they brought him to rest on his side, just as their training and experience had taught them. Josephine held the man's feet in position while the other three members of the team managed the man's upper body. Soon, the man stopped moving, his breath fell shallow before falling off completely. In a frenzy they then set to trying to bring the man back, but it was too late. Or was it? Soon the man's arm began to move and a sigh of relief came over the group but, the man no longer breathed. Only the virus existed now. Unknowingly the two members at the man's upper regions leaned down to turn him right, The man found the neck of one of the SaR members, then the arm of the other. Soon Josephine looked on in horror as the man began to literally eat her fellow rescuers alive. Fear coursed through her veins as she fetched her hatchet from her belt and brought it above her head as she shouted at the man to stop, but that was no man anymore, it only had one thought. Eat.
Driving her hatchet into the man's head after all shouting failed Josephine looked at the bodies, the blood that now covered her, she wanted to scream. But when she opened her mouth, no sound came out. The shear trauma of what she had just done had literally stolen her voice. She ran, Ran until she couldn't run anymore and trudged her way back to the meeting point they were to meet the helicopter to airlift them out of the mountains. But they weren't there. In the distance smoke billowed from the tree's. A wild fire? When'd that start? Upon investigating she saw the cause. It was the helicopter.
Panic stricken the twenty three year old trecked on, back towards ellsworth. but that was still a solid ten miles due south. She made it, but when she arrived, Chaos was all that she found. Finding her home empty and the town in shambles Josephine stocked up on supplies and relied on her training to navigate away from wherever those creatures seemed to be, which from what she could tell was mostly towns and other places people used to dwell. She spent the last year looking for her parent's to no avail, Her voice never returned after that first run in, and so trying to find friendly people was a challenge, most didn't understand so she took to carrying a small chalk bored and chalk she found in an old school. Heading south in hopes of finding her parents she takes it day by day, step by step.
