History:

Only son of Jack Erna and Valeria Rodríguez. Sam was born in Galicia, Spain, on February 13th 1978. When he was just ten months old he suffered from bacterian meningitis, which caused that the right side of his body got paralyzed for a while. Fortunately, little Sam overcame the disease very quickly. However, he never learned to walk properly. Despite all of this, he grew up being pretty much like any other kid.

When he was twelve he went through the emotional trauma of losing his father due to a heart attack. After this, Sam was never the same. He went from being such a nice kid to becoming a raging teen. He began hating everything and everybody, including himself. He only found comfort in drinking alcohol while going out with his friends. At the age of sixteen he got Clara - his girlfriend at that time - pregnant by accident. Both agreed that the girl would have an abortion. Unfortunately, Clara's parents were very religious and forced her to have the baby. And so, at the early age of seventeen - in 1995 - Clara and Sam became mother and father of a baby girl they named Romily.

After holding his little angel for the first time, Sam's mindset changed for good. He made every effort to graduate in high school and started working at anything he could in order to keep his daughter fed with his own money. He worked as a janitor, a waiter, a shop assistant, a bouncer... Anything was good to him. Luckily, Clara kept studying meanwhile, and eventually she became a doctor, gaining financial stability. She bought an appartment where Sam moved in, and at last both could raise Romily like any other family. Around 2001, Sam's mother died due to a car accident. Clara didn't really get along with her own parents, so she and Sam decided to leave Spain and move in to an appartment in Detroit, far from everything, and they even got married.

The three lived happily for nine years, until the outbreak started. By the time Detroit got overrun by the dead, Sam was working as a lumberjack in the outskirts. He wanted to go back and get his wife and daughter, not giving a damn about how suicidal it would be to go into the city. Luckily, one of his co-workers stopped him, being forced to knock Sam down. He and his fellow lumberjacks - men and women - became one of the few group of survivors left. They had a camp for a while, until it got overrun, leaving Sam as the last of them left. He was all alone.
