Community Event Story: The Walking Dorks
Alright my fellow geeks, strap in because your long awaited vindication is coming! Create the most nerdy, dorky and socially awkward character you can come up and set on a quest to literally escape high school alive!
Evanston Township High School, for most the school that represents the perfect high school dream. For you, it's an absolute nightmare. Where some have popularity, you spend it in obscurity. Where there's peprallies and parties, for you there's extra-curricular activities. When the town goes nuts for the high school football's team, you go nuts over the new games coming out. You're an outcast in your own school, and some like to remind you of that daily, even the faculty staff.
But when the end of the world comes, you'll be the one with the advantage. Because when others were engaging in sports, underage drinking and pre-marital sex you were engaging in survival horror games and zombie larping. Where others got a car for their sweet 16, you worked your ass off to buy yours and maybe even know the mechanics of it and can make repairs yourself. Where other people's parents would hire someone to make repairs around the house, you picked up a powertool and helped your dad instead just to save money.
They shined all their lives, but your time to shine is now.
The setting:
Evanston is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States, 12 miles (19 km) north of downtown Chicago, bordered by Chicago to the south, Skokie to the west, and Wilmette to the north. It had a population of 74,486 as of 2010. It is one of the affluent North Shore communities that adjoin Lake Michigan and is the home of Northwestern University.
And straight in the middle of that; your personal hell also known as Evanston Township High School. A big ass high school complete with a library, auditorium, gymnasiums, theater, workshops and a football stadium. Its many hallways, classrooms and staircases are difficult enough to manoeuver in regular life, imagine having to make your way through it when your bullies have turned into the undead and are roaming the hallways still hellbend on making your life miserable.

The plot:
Our story start at the very beginning of the walker apocalypse. Although there have been recent reports of people behaving irrationally and physical assaults in and around of Chicago, life is still going on in Evanston. Just like every day you turn up at school ready for another day of torment, unaware that this is the day the world changes forever. You're sitting in class when you hear people screaming in the hallways, and that's when it all begins. A few walkers made their way inside the school attacking students. And before you realize what's going on, the school is infested. You and your fellow misfits have to get out of the school, but that proves no easy task. Will you sit back and wait for help to come, or will you step up for the first time in your life and escape the school?
Character creation ground rules:
- All characters have to be between ages 13-17
- Characters have to be geeks and absolute dorks. No popular kids such as jocks and cheerleaders, musicians, student president body etc... Characters may belong to alternative subcultures such as skaters, punks, goths, etc...
- Characters can be intelligent and have a lot of perks and skills, but pay for it by being socially awkward. Admin and mod will for this event make sure your character is not a social butterfly. He or she can have friends, but not too many.
- Play-by's have to reflect your character. You can't play an absolute nerd while having a play-by who's genetic perfection itself. There are however instances in movies and TV in which someone considered to be 'hot' played a convincing nerd or geek. Think of Victoria Justice in the movie Cool Girls or Galadriel Stineman in The Middle. If they're convincing enough, we'll allow it. I'll post a list of movies and TV-shows in which you can get good geeky play-by's below should you not be able to find one yourself.
- Event characters can only play in the event thread. Once your character is completed and approved, it'll get a special designation and color marking it as an 'Event Character'. You cannot use them in other threads other than the event. If you wish to keep them after the event is finished, that can be arranged.
