Having scouted out an area surrounded by walls in a small town in Tennessee Haley and her two young companions were saddened to find the place abandoned and overrun by the undead. Having scavenged what they could from the destroyed settlement Haley made the executive decision to head north with the idea that the colder it got, the slower the dead would get. Passing through Kentucky the three quickly found themselves crossing the Indiana border. Punching their way through numerous small towns along their journey they now found themselves in a town named Greenburge. Low on gas they had been forced to stop at a gas station off the highway to try and siphon gas out of the abandoned vehicles that dotted the parking lot.
Pulling to the side of the gas station Haley turned the engine off and put her hand in the air signalling the two girls to go quiet, a signal that was obeyed with little protest from either of them, even the loudmouth Sophia. Listening for any sign of movement she looked behind them and scanned the road for any sign of life. Satisfied that they were alone for the moment Haley looked to Sophia. "Go inside and check things out, if it's clear grab what you can and come back to the car." She said as she looked to the redhead in the backseat.
"Do I get a piece of candy if I do good mom?" Sophia answered sarcastically.
"I'll think about it, Good luck." Haley answered the girl, she had come to understand that Sophia's way of talking was through sarcasm. Even if she liked you, no, especially if she liked you she would always be sarcastic with you. Sometimes she wondered if her mouth was what earned her the X over her face, the large scar was still a mystery to the sisters and Red had made it extremely clear that she was never going to be in a mood to talk about it, Not that Haley was going to let that be the final answer by any stretch of the imagination. She just wished she had the ability to get people to open up to her like Justin always did.
"Stay on me." Haley said looking to her sister after watching Sophia disappear around the corner of the building in a crouched run. Looking Katey in the eyes she waited for her to nod in agreement before opening her door and stepping around to open Katey's, careful of her surroundings she waited for Katey to step out and grab her shirt like she had been taught before charging her pistol and handing to the young girl. "Remember Kat, You only shoot if you mean it." She echoed her brothers famous words as she handed it to the girl. Watching as she took the weapon and held it as best she could in the manner that Haley had instructed her in training she then began making her way to the trunk and fetched the hose and gas canister. Swinging her rifle over her shoulder Haley took out her own side arm and held it at the ready as the two made their way to the first car. Setting the hose up Haley started the gas flowing into the canister before she scanned the surroundings again, still nothing.
This trend continued until they reached the last car in the lot, They had just finished setting the now two thirds full canister up to collect what remained when the sound of an engine could be heard in the air. Haley's hair stood up as she instintivly crouched down by the car and pulled Katey down with her. "Stay behind me." She said sternly before looking back towards the direction of the sound. Out of the corner of her eye she noticed Sophia had heard it as well and had peaked a cautious head over the counter on the inside of the broken window.
Her rifle at the ready as she took cover behind the car Kelly took a steady breath as she waited for whatever was making the sound to roll by.
