Dislikes: Being treated like a child, alcohol, small spaces, Hip-Hop, Large groups
Strengths: High Stamina, Quick on her feet, small frame.
Habits: Maria always chews on her nails, No matter if she's thinking about something, nervous, angry or what have you. If she's not doing something then she's off to the races with the nail biting
Flaws: Overthinks a lot and assumes the worst, Doesn't eat enough/Underweight, Not trained on any weapon, Clumsy
Dreams/goals: Early on Maria took to Track and Field to escape her home life, As the years passed and she showed her prowess with the sport she dreamed of making it a career, maybe even going to the Olympics some day. Unfortunatly those dreams were shattered once the dead began to walk. Now, she just hopes that she can find someone, anyone to teach her how to survive.
Fears: Never finding where she belongs in the world, Seeing her family and friends as the creatures.
Overall Personality: Maria is very tomboyish and friendly to those she knows are kind, She's quiet for the most part unless she knows you but that doesn't mean she's antisocial. She loves talking to people and will always answer a question, once she gets to know a person she'll talk your ear off so be careful. She has a tendency to overthink things a lot though and it leads to a lot of nervousness swirling inside her which tends to manifest itself as depression. She loves listening to music and takes to things quickly though, Always having to keep herself on task due to her father being less than a part of her life she's very self motivated. Taking the initiative isn't something she will ever shy away from.
Even Though Yesterday's Gone
History: Maria grew up in a small two bedroom apartment in downtown New York. Her mother had died when she was two and it was left to her father to raise her, Which he did fairly well until he was introduced to the bottle. Maria's earliest memory is being yelled at by her father in a half drunken state on their living room couch. Reaching school age Maria made a point to make a large number of friends and would spend a good chunk of her time with them to avoid her father and her less than stable home life. During her later grade school years her Gym teacher, Mr. Smitherson, suggested she try out for the Track team for middle school.
Making it on the team Maria quickly found her calling in the sport and as time passed she found a great connection with her fellow teammates, they basically had become her second family. And so her days passed, Track, friends, and school dominated her life. But there was always the rage and anger that awaited her at home, the dread that would overtake her each night was immense.
The day the dead began to roam had started like any other, she woke up and made her way into the kitchen to make herself some breakfast, she pulled out the milk and a bowl before pouring her some cereal. As usual her father was asleep in his livingroom chair with beer cans scattered around him. Eating her breakfast she set out for school with little thought that it would be the last time she did so under normal circumstances. As the day went on the horror and chaos began to become apparent. Having made her way back home she discovered her father in a less than alive state. Unsure about what was happened Maria's story nearly ended before it even began when her father lunged for her and tried to bite her. Luckily though she was quick on her feet and managed to escape that fate. Having run from her undead father Maria found herself with a group of people, It was from them she learned what was happening and it was thanks to them that she stayed alive for this long.
Staying with them for nearly a year they survived by skirting around the outskirts of the town, having made their home in a tenth story apartment on the lower east side Maria didn't see much of the outside world. One day however a usually supply run had seemed to have gone wrong. It started as it had every time before, Her two guardians informed her to stay put and that they would be back in a few hours. But they never returned. Having stayed put for nearly a week with no sign of her guardians coming back Maria now found herself with a question. What does she do now? Find her way on her own? Or stay put and hope that they eventually come back? The fact is however, she can't wait forever.
