What really grinds my gears in The Walking Dead! (and other zombie lore!)
So, you get bitten and infected with whatever causes the disease and you turn into the walking dead, becoming a mindless husk out for one thing: human flesh, every day, all day. Om-nom-nom!
BUT!
It would appear as though even though the dead are mindless and rotting away every day, all that eating and walking appears to train their muscles despite the lack of bloodflow. Because oh yes, as we saw in the show, the comics and even the games, all of a sudden the dead are able to tear whole chunks of meat away from a human. WITH ONE BITE!
Now I don't know about you guys, but have you ever tried tearing off a piece of meat jerky with your mouth? As in, tearing of a piece of meat that was already dead to begin with? Which was derived of all blood, fat and juices and dried out over a hot fire? Pretty tough at times huh?
Now imagine doing the same when you're dead, your teeth rotting maybe chipped off here and there already with no healthy gums to hold them in place? And on top of that, the meat you put your chompers in is protected by the largest human organ, the skin, which even though can get scraped easily still takes a large amount of kinetic power to tear through? (Think open leg fractures due to being run over by a car, falling off a high place, etc...)
That being said, I indeed admit that the human jaws and mouth can apply enough force to tear through skin but this applies to a healthy human with every muscle and bone still intact. (Think Rick biting through that 'Claimed' guy's throat in the show, the one who wanted to have hanky-panky with little Carl but it was still portrayed as being quite the task)
The dead just go CHOMP once and voila, there goes your skin and your meat! And depending on the place you're bitten you might be destined to join them.
And then there's another part of the body that gets overpowed in undead-status: THE HANDS.
Many a times in all parts of The Walking Dead lore, we can see the walkers kneeling down by a healthy person... AND TEARING OPEN THEIR BELLIES WITH THEIR BARE UNDEAD ROTTING HANDS!
Like, what gives dude? I can't even completely squeeze a friggin' soda can with one hand but when you're undead all of a sudden you can tear open people's bellies and stomachs to get to the good stuff inside?
Well, that's pretty much what grinds my gears in the lore. Thoughts? Theories? I'd love to hear your pet peeves about the show
