He is arrogant to a fault and overconfident in his inability to die. He puts himself in risky situations on purpose to prove his divinity to his followers. Going to great lengths to show them that god will not let him die because he has a purpose. His is psychotic who is mentally unstable. He can become very violent with no provocation. Elias is very gifted at convincing people to see things the way he does. He almost has a hypnotic quality to the way he speaks and carries himself.
Even Though Yesterday's Gone
History: Growing up in a deeply religious household Elias was an only child. His mother forced him to worship even though he honestly did not believe. It was these values what were brainwashed into him to the point of fanatic levels. It was emotional and mental abuse to put that much religion and faith in a child so young. Elias's paranoia and fear of the wrath of god came from his unhealthy upbringing. Elias became a true believer himself. Though it was initially fear that inspired him it was faith that carried him and brought him closer to the word of god which he believes is always in his ear. He hears god and he talks back asking him what he would like him to do.
Elias used to pray every night that god would take his mother away from him. He wanted to be rid of her anger and her lashing out at him all the time. He just wanted to be happy. And one day he was elated to find out that that the end of the world happened and his mother was the first one taken. God saw fit to take her and he saw that he had a mission. Elias believed that he had a calling a higher calling given to him by god himself. And he used his gifts of gab to manipulate other survivors into rising his stock through the apocalypse.
Elias has earned himself a nice little group of followers. His numbers have been growing. Word has spread that someone would save them and they kept flocking too him. Word of mouth in the end of days is still a powerful tool to be used. His followers would die for him. Willingly and often ask him to sacrifice them in honor of god. They believe through Elias's teachings that sacrifice is the only sure fire way to earn access to heaven. Dying for his cause. Part of what Elias says is meant as manipulation. Part of what he says is things he actually truly believes himself. It depends how lucid he is in the moment to determine which is which. Elias wants to save as many people as he can. Bring them into his flock and keep them safe from the dangers of the world. Even though he himself is probably more dangerous than anything they might've faced before meeting him.
Elias sees the walkers as "Sinners" Poor souls who died before they could be granted access to the kingdom of heaven. It is his firm believe weather he is suffering a psychotic episode or not, that if you are a sinner and damned to hell that your hell is to walk the earth as a corpse. If you die and do not come back as a walker then he believes it is because you were granted access to heaven and your soul has joined god in the sky. He sees no correlation between trauma to the brain and one's ability to turn and come back. He does not allow himself to see it. His delusions prevent it. His followers do not see this as well. They are such strong believers in the word of Elias that they believe this as fact as well.
Each and every member of Elias's flock are just as dangerous. Each and every one of them are wild and unpredictable. The only truly predictable behavior to be expected of them is unquestioning loyalty and sudden violence against non believers. If Elias was to meet someone he truly believed to be damned; weather it be by their actions or their believes he would try to convince them of the error of their ways. Or he would try to kill them. Elias will go to any lengths to protect his delusions. His mind could not handle finding out that everything he says is bullshit.
Elias and his flock live on a farm. Out in the middle of nowhere. Their numbers are in the double digits and they will kidnap and brainwash new members to grow their numbers. Violence, fear and intimidation are the key factors here. The dead hold no power over Elias or his flock. They do not fear death, they welcome it. They believe that death is granted only to those who have earned it. Weather for their sins or their eventual acceptance into the kingdom of heaven. To Elias and their flock. Death is a reward for faith. Though suicide is a sin and will instantly turn you into a walking corpse like the rest of the sinners. They have not had many run ins with other groups or factions due to their isolated location, but Elias has been thinking about moving his flock. God has been speaking to him and telling him that he needs to reach more people. He has been told that he has more souls to save. Currently they do not have the means to relocate but they are working towards that goal. Elias spends every day in worship in an old barn that serves as their church.
Upon bringing a new member into his flock he will ask you one simple question. The answer to this question will determine weather he kills you on the spot or offers you a path to his side where you might grow and learn and have a chance to earn a death of noble means. A key to the gates of heaven if you will. When you are brought before him. With all the love and honesty he has in his wicked twisted heart we will look upon you with mercy and kindness. And he will ask you..... "Will you walk.... With Elias?" If the answer is anything but positive he will become violent and your judgement depends on his lucidity and his current instructions from god, but usually it is death. Instant and brutal and in the one way he knows for sure is going to turn you into a walker... A sinner if you will. He will hang you by the neck until you are dead from the rafters of the barn. Your body will then be taken down and his flock will craft a crucifix to nail you too. This guarantees you become a lifeless walking corpse sinner in their eyes.... It is just punishment. Behind the barn.... Behind the church of Elias there is over three dozen walkers growling on crucifixes.
