The road was dead. The wind blew cold though the sun still shone, the geeks were scrambled about but as long as he was careful he’d be fine. There was a sting in the air which forced a memory into his head, at first it flittered by for a few seconds or so before settling down, showing itself to him. Janet was there, as she always had been, nestled softly beside him. She was wearing his old dog sweater, his mother had made it for Christmas back in college. He hadn’t thought about college since the old days; That’s when you proposed. Janet was his childhood sweetheart, they went to prom together, went to the same college, You settled for me. He quickened his pace a little, still wary of the geeks, it was an open road with no cars in sight and it didn’t sound like anyone was coming by.
He gave her that sweater for their first Christmas in college together. It's my lucky sweater, she wore it when she passed her midterms and finals, even every night they stayed in together. You were going to be a doctor, save lives, you were what this world needed. Still needs. He missed her for sure, that could never be denied, but he had moved on, found someone new. He had been smart to keep his distance, it took someone special to tear down the walls he had built. She was prone to taking action before fully thinking through the consequences. I recall you came along on most of those adventures, Boo.. A smile appeared on his face every time she called him “Boo”, his face strained to remember the muscles used to form his grin.
A light had flickered in the thicket of the treeline, Wayne crouched down and slinked to the side of the road as soon as he saw it; scanning for any signs of life as he trained himself to do. If it was a geek he could move around it or carve its brains out without any problem. The living are a different story, perhaps they didn’t see you. Let’s lie low and wait until they get closer or move on. He crept along the ditch, moving as quietly as possible. Will you kill them? Only if they come as a threat; If Only. After about ten or fifteen seconds, studying the area where he saw the distortion in the treeline, Wayne took to moving from the ditch to the trees. Unless it was the dead, or they, like Wayne, weren't paying attention, then they'd likely have seen him meandering through the road and he needed to at least try to get to high ground.
