Even Though Yesterday's Gone
History: Julie was born out of a caucasian American father and a hispanic Argentinian mother. Her parents split when she was little and she was raised by her mother in a hispanic neighborhood in Los Angeles. Due to her name and heritage she never quite belonged among the hispanics in her neighborhood, who would call her 'gringa' most of the time. It caused Julie to have very few friends growing up and she grew spiteful of the hispanic mentality in Los Angeles.
Because she grew up among gang members and saw violence on an almost daily basis, she decided she wanted to make a difference and joined the LAPD straight out of high school. She was a beat cop for a few years, but then made detective and was assigned to the Santa Monica narcotics division, going undercover multiple times. She was able to keep it hidden from her old neighborhood that she had become a cop so that her mother would not be harrassed by latin gang members.
When the outbreak happened in Los Angeles, Julie helped keep order for a while until everything collapsed. In one of the quarantine zones Julie recognized one of her old neighborhood friends, Teresa, who had been arrested for looting earlier. Julie set Teresa and some others free and joined up with them to survive the walkers.
Julie and Teresa's group was able to survive with the help of an ex-marine called Mallory Faraday, a girl from Maine who went to USC and was in Santa Monica when everything went to shit. Mallory's group and Julie's group joined up and were able to reach Beverly Hills and then the outskirts of the city. Mallory's group was heading for the desert, but when Teresa didn't want to go with them Julie chose to stay with her friend rather than to go with Mallory. Right after Mallory left, Julie and Teresa saw how the military bombed Los Angeles into oblivion from a distance.
Julie went back to Boyd Heights only to find her mother turned. Then, Teresa confessed she had joined an East LA gang after high school called the Caballeros de la Santa Muerte, and promised Julie they would be able to keep them safe. Julie however would have to lie about her heritage, and take another name because if the gang would find out she had been a cop and was not a Mexican, they would kill her. Julie agreed to be called Julia Menendez and to fake having been born a fullblood Mexican.
Pinned between a rock and a hard place, Julie wants to convince Teresa to leave with her and escape far away from the ruins of a bombed out LA and find a settlement further up north.
