Paul had just finished walking the marathon that just kept going and going since his squad lost there vehicle due to a lack of fuel. His feet just keep walking without thinking but he was sure he had a few blisters both open and healing on his feet but he just wanted to continue going, he knew that once he reached home that he could secure the place and begin to bring survivors back into the fold.
It was then he heard something but it didn't sound like the undead "No way" Paul said as he began to pick up the pace it sounded like survivors were there still humans alive
Paul ran, he didn't care if his feet hurt if there were survivors he had to see did this mean Bar Harbor survived could this mean that his kids survived. He didn't know and he didn't care "Sir where are you going" one of the soldiers said as everyone was picking up speed to keep up with him "To find survivors Private don't you hear those noises" Paul said while keeping the speed up and that activated something in the soldiers and they began running faster.
Paul had reached a drawbridge which was new to him, it used to be a land bridge towards Bar Harbor and then had an arrow land near his feet on one of the turrets on there end of the drawbridge just shot an arrow to stop him in his tracks "Don't proceed any further, you are now on Bar Har..." the person stopped in the middle of the spiel noticing what both Paul and his crew were wearing "Wait are you guys military?" the person asked quizzically.
"Easy there kid don't worry, we aren't here to harm anyone, my name's Captain Paul Spectre of The United States Military, is this your hold-out I'm from here so a couple of people possibly might know me. If not can I speak to your boss? I'm sure we both have a lot to talk about because...Well shit your the first people we've seen in forever"
Paul said trying to sound as diplomatic as possible and holding his people off from retaliating he didn't want to anger anyone especially since he just saw the first new survivors in months he needed to makes sure they were safe and could be trusted or if any people who knew him were still alive because he sure as shit knew that someone was running this.
"I'm sorry Captain I'm afraid it doesn't work that way, first you and your men have to go through a security check and then we can clear you to go through may I ask you to come to the front and hand in your weapons" the man said to Paul, shit he knew it wouldn't be that easy to talk whoever was in charge "
"Sure kid that seems like a good protocol don't know who is bad and who isn't I respect that" Paul said as he began walking towards the checkpoint to get his things checked. His soldiers were a little more reluctant but Paul reassured them that they were okay and then they followed him.
"So what happens now then" Paul said with a little bit of reluctance as he stood at the other part where they had guns trained on them a there stood a woman who looked around her mid 20s "We have to check you for weapons, seems that one is already solved because you being military and all so we need to ask you to place all your weapons here and then we will hand them back to you on your way out" the woman said Paul complied and then he placed his weapons down and his soldiers followed suit.
Once the guards made sure the weapons were out of the way they decided that it was time to bring them to town "Okay if you would follow us please" a guard said that looked about double Paul's size.
The man then led them towards a car "Okay once your in town, you will need to be checked by our medical personnel, don't worry it's nothing personal" the man snickered at the terrible joke he just made "We just need to check that none of you are infected or have any untreated wounds before we let you talk to anyone" Paul sighed but he already made it this far, he wasn't looking forward to the conversation about the bite wound on his body when he eventually got round to that.
He entered the car along with his men and then the drawbridge was lowered and they made there way to town.
