Sitting around the campfire with everyone squabbling about and being silly, it felt like bliss for Ziggy. Good friends, good atmosphere, her lover by her side. Only what darkened it was what would happen the next night. How many people from this camp would still be alive afterwards. Ziggy shook her head. No, no one of her old and new friends was going to die. Not Ayita, Sara, Carmin, Ellie, Sarah B., Thomas or Brody. She'd do whatever she had to do to keep them all safe. Even if it would mean she had to kill those who would mean them all harm herself.
Seeing Ayita with The Offspring hoodie Ziggy wished she could find at least one of their cd's in the town, just to show her how awesome the band really was. It kind of made her think though; what had happened to all the bands in the world? Oh how Ziggy wished all the punkrock bands had survived and that they would one day make music again. But as for all that hipster Mumford band bullshit and Coachella crap Ziggy secretly wished they had all perished.
But at Ayita's offer if she would try the whiskey Ziggy held her hand up to decline. Most definitely not tonight, and not whiskey. She hated the stuff. But she would definitely drink herself silly after everything was over, preferably at the victory party with everyone else attending too.
"Not today Schätzien." Ziggy said. "And definitely not whiskey!"
"Yeah Ayita, don't you know anything?" Thomas joked. "She's German, they only drink beer!"
"Yes, and our sole diet consists of sauerkraut and bratwurst too!" Ziggy joked back. "Except on Sundays we eat frankfurters and bretzels!"
Ziggy and Thomas shared a laugh. Ziggy wasn't into the whole political correctness thing and didn't mind enlarging stereotypes about German people. But the whole nazi-thing and joking about it was still painful, and still a taboo for most Germans. But being a bratwurst-eating, beer-swilling and dirndl-wearing blonde German girl she had no problems with.
"Ah man I wished I could've experienced a real Oktoberfest!" Thomas added.
"You wouldn't survive Tommy!" Ziggy answered. "My uncle lives in München and we've always gone there for Oktoberfest. First ones to puke and pass out were always the Americans!"
"Well still, seems a helluva way to spend the day!" Thomas said. "Ah man, why did this shit happen right before I was about to go to college!?"
Seeing Sara glow whenever Troy was around did Ziggy good too. It was nice to see her happy. But it also concerned Ziggy. She had a feeling there were going to be more trying situatins in the future for Sara. If her father was still alive, people would not take too kindly of him collaborating with the enemy, even if it was for her and her sister to escape. Ziggy would do everything in her power to protect Sara and Maria from suffering any consequences of that, but their father was another thing entirely. When Sara's former bully came to ask if she could sit with them Ziggy's instinct told her to be polite and let the girl take a seat but it wasn't her choice to make. It was Sara's. Ziggy looked at her friend wondering what she would do.
