Three bullets and an arrow. That's what was required to stop Ziggy from fighting off the Sirens who were trying to board the train. Two in her upper right arm, one in her right shoulder and an arrow through her lower left arm was what incapacitated her from the fight, what rendered her unable to reach for her sidearm to shoot the attacker behind Ayita. She had screamed at her fiancée to turn around but it was too late; the moment Ayita turned around was the moment a dagger was planted straight into her heart. All Ziggy could do was scream when Thomas tackled the guy and slit his throat.
Ziggy had been able to crawl towards her dead fiancée, who was bleeding from her mouth, and she saw how the life just departed from Ayita's eyes. When the fighting was over Ziggy had screamed hysterically when Blake pulled her away from Ayita's corpse, which was showing signs of reanimation. It wasn't until Brody reluctantly sank his knife into Ayita's temple that Ziggy blacked out and fainted.
She woke up a day later only to find out another tragedy had struck; some boarders had managed to get into the locomotive trying to take control, but Ellie and Cam had fought them off. Unfortunately they died protecting eachother. Cam had jumped in front of Ellie trying to protect her and got shot in the head. Ellie however had already been critically wounded, having taken a gunshot to the throat and succumbed right after killing the woman who had killed Cam. Having seen her daughter die, dr. Arroway had thrown herself off the train when they crossed a bridge when no one was paying attention for a moment.
Ziggy had been sitting by her dead fiancée, Ellie and Cam outside on the flatbed for the remainder of the journey, refusing to leave them even when it rained and people had told her to come inside but she refused. She wasn't going to let Ayita be alone. One night, when no one was watching, Ziggy had brought her Glock to her head, her finger on the trigger, but she couldn't do it, no matter how hard she wanted to be again with Ayita; she couldn't kill herself. It had been the lowest point of her breakdown, the furthest she had gone in this tragedy.
Maybe if she was lucky, she'd succumb to her wounds yet. Ziggy felt feverish and had a cough, her skin was pale and the blood on her clothes smelled like vomit. At this point she hoped the infection would just kill her.
But then the train started slowing down, until it finally came to a stop. Army trucks stopped near the wagons, and Ziggy saw the first of the Mariners climb aboard the flatbed.
"We're... home... my love." Ziggy said to Ayita. "We're... home..."
Ziggy then bowed her head and started crying. She had survived, and was going to live. She was going to have to do this without Ayita from now on. And Ellie, and Cam... she'd never see them again. She'd never be whole ever again.
